Michael Morrill | William Kofmehl: THIRTY
Both Morrill and Kofmehl are former faculty members of the Studio Arts Department and are alumni of Yale University School of Art where they shared the same studio, thirty years apart. This unusual coincidence was the impetuous for their exhibition of recent work at the Concept Art Gallery and their joint installation in Kofmehl’s Pittsburgh studio.
Trained as a sculptor, Michael Morrill works primarily in painting and mixed media. He is interested in the history and influences of abstraction and digital technologies in drawing painting and printmaking and multi-media collaboration.
Kofmehl considers himself a multidisciplinary artist consumed by sculpture, performance, painting, drawing, and film. "My aim is to generate reciprocity between the viewer and the work, looking at the intersections between factual information, historical events and fictitious stories while commenting on social roles and divisions of labor."
THIRTY opens on Saturday, September 9th from 1-4pm at the Concept Art Gallery with an artist’s reception in the upstairs gallery.
The opening will continue later that evening at Kofmehl’s studio in Highland Park from 8-11pm where Morrill and Kofmehl’s joint installation will be featured. 728 N. Negley Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15206
