Xiaodan (Clara) Wang

Artist Statement:

As a practicing interdisciplinary artist who focuses on conceptual development when making works, Clara often uses language, symbols, and mundane objects as materials and languages to explore and develop the concept of her works. Many of her works are originated and inspired by her personal experience as a Chinese living in the U.S. From small things like changing to Fahrenheit from Celsius, to broader conflicts between the Eastern and Western world, her practice becomes the method and material with which she processes, understands, and portrays her thoughts and experiences navigating these worlds.

The multiplicity and complexity that I see and experience in everyday life are the raw materials that inform the conceptual development of my work. Then by recording my thoughts, feelings, and observations, I explore materials and techniques to best express my concepts.
