Shannon Spear

Biography 
Shannon grew up in rural Pennsylvania as an only child exploring the fields and forests. This, combined with daydreaming about the fantastical worlds in books, cartoons, and video games, led to the creation of art containing themes of fantasy and nature. Shannon's study at the University of Pittsburgh has enabled the exploration of these themes using various mediums and created a love of exploring what can be made using unfamiliar tools and media. Shannon lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a wonderful husband and their sweet, little tuxedo kitty. 

Artist Statement 
I hope to inspire the sense of wonder one has when exploring the unknown using nature landscapes with fantastical creatures. I keep my works small and add little details to draw the audience closer to the work to spark their curiosity and create a sense of intimacy with the piece. I use ambiguity to inspire stories and encourage the audience to play with the work. My goal is not to provide answers to questions but to let the audience create their own narratives. I create in a variety of mediums but find myself favoring sculptural and digital creations.
