JoAnna Commandaros is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she currently lives and works. Her drawings, sculptures, and installations are inspired by alchemy, cultural aesthetics, and ecological systems. She has participated in residencies and exhibitions nationally and internationally, and values interactions with diverse cultures and practices.

Locally, she has created interactive installations and public art in several disenfranchised neighborhoods in the Pittsburgh area, pursuing a creative process that recognizes the historic dichotomy between nature and culture, and works towards healing the human relationship to the natural world and its ecosystems.
