Artist Statement:

Inspired by Dada and the Surrealist movement, I often create images with the intent of challenging our way of life by transforming the familiar into something playfully absurd. Because of my varied interests, I enjoy creating mixed media work and utilizing craft to add dimension, texture, and diversity to my work. With my photography especially, I use mirrors, long exposure, and unusual lighting to push the boundaries of the medium and see how far I can get away from the objectivity with which photography is known.

Through my work I question who I am, how I'm perceived, and my place in the world. I often achieve this through self-portraits, using them as a reflection of the world around me as well. With my education in psychology, I am inclined to examine the mind and perception. I am critical of binary and restrictive thinking and use juxtaposition and contrast to communicate these concerns. Gender, sexuality, insecurity, isolation, dreams, and self-concept are frequent subjects of my work.
