Summer 2013 Studio Arts Field Study in Wyoming

Studio Arts offers this three-credit seventeen-day Field Study Intensive in Wyoming through the University Honors College for the fifth consecutive year. Students meet in Denver in July for two days of museum and studio visits and then head north via the Snowy Range Pass to Rock River, Wyoming, northwest of Laramie. Situated in the high altitude short grass prairie between the Laramie Mountains and the Medicine Bow Range, students work between an encampment of tents on the Spring Creek Preserve’s 6,000 acres, the Longhorn Motel in Rock River, and makeshift studio space in a 1919 era Bank Building. This year's Field Study includes a trip to Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake, Nancy Holt's Sun Tunnels in the Great Basin Desert outside Lucin, Utah, and the White Mountain Petroglyphs of Wyoming's Red Desert.
