Studio Arts Teaching Associate Professor Sean P. Morrissey has seven works included in (Not) At Home, a five-person exhibition at the Anderson Gallery at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on view September 10 – October 18, 2026. Curated by Lilah Anderson, the exhibition features work by Katie Garth, Lois Harada, Tom Jones, Morrissey, and Henry Payer.
(Not) At Home considers relationships between home, place, and displacement, bringing together artists whose work approaches the built and natural environments from different perspectives. The exhibition explores how people construct, occupy, remember, and negotiate spaces of home, as well as the social and historical forces that shape those spaces.
Morrissey’s works in (Not) At Home span more than a decade of their studio practice and approach the domestic landscape through home paint colors, neighborhood silhouettes, windows, and views of the spaces beyond them. By isolating and removing familiar architectural elements, the works shift attention between interior and exterior, built space and landscape, and the ways home is visually defined.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Morrissey will lead a pochoir workshop at Drake University on Friday, October 2, from 1 – 3 p.m. Participants will learn about the stencil-based pochoir process and create their own work. The workshop will take place in the Harmon Fine Arts Center Drawing Studio and is open to the public with advance registration required.
