“UNBOXED” The Studio Arts Department’s 50th Anniversary Alumni Exhibition

The first exhibition of its kind since the department's founding in 1968, Studio Arts invited nearly 600 alumni to submit work for a celebratory open exhibition. The only limitation? All submissions needed to fit within the specified dimensions of an ordinary shipping box. Fifty alumni submitted work in a variety of media - drawing, watercolor, painting, fiber, collage, sculpture, print, video, book works, photography, dance, and animation - from Pennsylvania, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New York, Massachusetts, Indiana, Missouri, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Cyprus.

The exhibition runs September 14 - October 12, 2018. Conversations with alumni artists in the gallery will be held Thursday, September 20th at Noon. A Homecoming Reception with department tours and demonstrations will be held Friday, October 5th, 3:00-5:00pm, with sound and movement demonstrations by Staycee Pearl Dance Project throughout the afternoon.

The exhibition takes place in the University Art Gallery located in the Frick Fine Arts Building, University of Pittsburgh. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm. All events are free and open to the public. The exhibition is presented by the Department of Studio Arts with support from the Pitt Alumni Association.
