Through her work, Becky Slemmons searches for truths that are common throughout multiple cultures. While her background in drawing and painting holds a constant place in her practice, she has also followed her ideas into the disciplines of video, performance, fibers, glass and sound. She has shown work in Berlin, Germany; Seoul, Korea; Portland, OR; Baltimore, MD; Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA. Becky was awarded a Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center Collaborative Fellowship Residency and a Heinz endowment to attend Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA). She has served two artist residencies in Germany and one in Estonia, among others.
She mentored in and assistant-directed “Finding Our Wings,” a community video documentary project. The program served six at-risk teenage African-American girls living in Baltimore, by empowering them with their own video cameras.
