Renowned Pittsburgh artist and educator, Batista presents a set of paintings from three recent concurrent series focusing on pixilated imagery: "Tree," "Monuments" and "Old Masters." "Tree" is the study of this iconographic image in landscapes ranging from Pittsburgh's Frick Park to the Masai Mara in Kenya to Komodo Island in the Indian Ocean. "Monuments" visits natural landmarks and man-made monuments and "Old Masters" involves images of old master paintings. Using digital technology to analyze color and movement and to draft a pixilated composition, Batista then paints the generated information with high attention to traditional craftsmanship.

Batista has been on the faculty of the Studio Arts Department at the University of Pittsburgh for the past 34 years and is currently serving as an Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University and a BFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design. His paintings can be found nationally in numerous public and private collections. 

You may also know Ken as “The Voice of Folk Music” in Pittsburgh having produced and hosted “An American Sampler” for the past 21 years for WYEP 91.3 FM.
